The Ride

I'm always wondering what is next on the horizon, and yet looking back, the path has never been predictable. Here I am suddenly a thirty-something finding that I can't even compare my life with Michael and Hope. I have an established career, a great apartment, an incredible partner, I'm not living paycheck to paycheck, I've traveled the world and yet I wonder if I can really claim myself "adult."

Maybe it's the landmarks I compare with my other adult friends that aren't yet available to me? The list of "marriage", "kids", or "affordable housing market" still keep the adult moniker at bay. Still, I look forward to the other pending events in the short-term that may be the stepping stones to the big ticket items. The trip to Costa Rica, the credit score ticking up, the extra money in the account to buy a new TV, couch or a ring.

I guess as long as you're enjoying the ride I doesn't matter whether you're on a hill, loop, drop or bunny hop. Perhaps it's more like Space Mountain where the roller coaster ride happens in the dark and you're un-aware of the next pending element. I try to think through the next year - will I have a new job, or will I own a house? I need to shift from sitting in the car to building the track.

Font - not a basin but a typeface

I have an odd obsession with fonts. If your business has a crappy font, I probably won't be a good customer. I love graphic arts and fonts are essential to great graphics. My ideal tattoo would be a quote or saying in my favorite font. If fonts weren't great markers for a period in time, I would get one.

Same of my favorites of late are Sling, Gil Sans Light, and Print Clearly. I love the clean lines.

Half Nelson

We went to see Half Nelson at the AFI Fest last night. I've seen many of the Oscar nominated movies this year and I have to say that this one was one of my favorite. Ryan Gosling is incredible. The drug addiction almost seemed tactile like you could feel the morning after crustiness. I don't drink anymore but this movie made me feel repulsed by the thought of drinking ever again. Definitely check this one out. Ryan is worth seeing in his tighty whities (you know I had to say that).

A great thing about LA is movies. We've attended a few movies where after the screening the writer, director or actors talk about the film. I love getting to hear some more depth about the concepts or how things were filmed. It's given me a greater appreciation.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction

As much as I love Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, my favorite action star these days is Jason Statham. He was awesome in The Transporter but by far his best work is in Crank.
This movie had everything including great action, inventive direction and editing and a great sense of humor. And of course he's fun to watch - the pics speak for themselves.
My only hope is that one day he and The Rock make a great buddy movie.
